AGONY OF Ms AUNG SAN SUU KYI

A beautiful, delicate lady, at the mercy of an unimaginative, brutal junta - succinctly describes the agony of Ms Aung San Suu Kyi, the only Nobel peace laureate of Myanmar. She has been confined to her residence in Yangon without her telephone and any friends - only her cook and her doctor are allowed in. Her fault : she wants parliamentary democracy in her country.
Every June 19, her birthday, her supporters from National League for Democarcy (NLD) cry for her release and restoration of democracy in their sountry. This was her 63rd birthday, and the scenario remained the same as during the past 19 years. According to Reuters, Government sponsored Swan-Arr-Shin alias Masters of Force gang members came in six trucks and started beating mercilessly the NLD demonstraters in front of the latter's dilapidated headquarters in Yangon.
The demonstration was also in support of 1,300 political prisoners' release.
NLD demands an end to 46 years of military rule - and their senior members release birds on Ms Kyi's birthday, hoping the military might catch the hint and release their leader.
But the junta is impervious to these hints - as also those from the nature in the form of floods and earthquakes and would not like to mend its ways.
